In August 2024 we invited members of the VC… community to nominate projects they felt warranted financial backing, projects they believed would instil pride among the members of the Veterans Can… community and would leave a positive impression of on society.
We received a number of submissions and soon announced a short-list – 3 from the UK, 1 from Australia and 1 from New Zealand for the community to decide who to was most deserving of the inaugural £5000 Veterans Can… Deliver Grant.
After a short period where we encouraged those on the shortlist to do their best to “sell” their initiative to the community, voting took place. Three days later it was announced that Save A Warrior UK received the most votes, and subsequently the first ever £5000 grant, which was presented by our co-founder Garrath to the COO of SAW UK and Veterans Can… member Tom Burgess. These funds will be used to sponsor aspects of the second Save A Warrior UK course cohort and will ensure those Veterans who need support will get it from the SAWUK team.
The founders, board and most importantly members of the Veterans Can… community are proud the grant has been of assistance to an initiative that, while sadly necessary, is made possible by a small team of tenacious and determined Veterans who want to make a difference to society.
